Covid changed a lot of things for businesses and business owners. I won’t try to enumerate them all, but I don’t need to, because if you own a business, you get it.
However, one change is particularly irksome, at least to this old codger who still remembers the good old days of pre-covid 2020.
It’s called customer service. Like so many things in life, you don’t miss it until it’s gone and for the most part it’s bye-bye, at least on the part of many service businesses and organizations here in central Arkansas.
Example: I’ve been trying to reach a company’s corporate headquarters for the last month and still have had no response from them in spite of the following efforts:
- 3 phone calls
- 2 emails
- 1 filled in website form
- 1 in person drop- by and actually speak with a receptionist
Despite all that effort, I have STILL not had the courtesy of a return call or email.
I’ve had similar experiences with service businesses.
So, for a business owner who wants to separate from other businesses, please check your customer service and see how you measure up. Here’s a test, call (or have someone else call) your business anonymously and ask for something and see what your results are.
I hope you’ll be pleasantly surprised but I’m not holding my breath. Too many businesses have forgotten that customer service is job #1. No customers means no business and I’ve given up on that company’s corporate headquarters. Don’t place yourself in the same category.
And that’s all I have to say about that……….
