By Stephen Bowen, CBI Team
If you had told me years ago that I would end up helping people sell their businesses for a living, I probably would have laughed. My career started in structural design and fabrication, full of spreadsheets, standards, problem solving, and leading teams through complex projects. I loved that work. I loved building things, improving systems, and helping people do their jobs better.
But somewhere along the way, I realized something important. What I enjoyed most wasn’t the software or the structures. It was helping people. The conversations. The chance to help someone move from uncertainty to clarity.
That realization is what pulled me into business brokerage.
A Career Shift That Made Perfect Sense
I have always been wired to understand how things work, businesses included. After running my own company and spending decades inside organizations of every size, I developed a real appreciation for the grit, creativity, and sacrifice it takes to build something from scratch.
So, when I discovered the world of business brokerage, it felt like the perfect fit. It combined everything I enjoy: meaningful conversations, problem solving, strategy, and helping people make life changing decisions with confidence.
It didn’t take long before I knew I had found my lane.
What I Love Most About This Work
The best part of my job is simple. I get to meet incredible business owners.
Every owner has a story. How they started, what they’ve overcome, what they’re proud of, and what they hope comes next. Sitting across from someone and hearing that story firsthand is something I never take for granted.
I enjoy being the person they can talk to openly, without pressure or judgment. Someone who understands the weight of the decision and respects the years they’ve poured into their business. Someone who can help them see possibilities they may not have considered.
There is something deeply rewarding about watching an owner go from “I’m not sure where to start” to “I feel ready.”
Rooted in Arkansas and Invested in Its People
I have lived in central Arkansas for more than 30 years. My wife and I raised our five kids here. This is home. And because it is home, I care deeply about the people who keep our local economy moving, the owners who show up early, stay late, and quietly carry the responsibility of keeping their teams employed.
Helping those owners plan their next chapter is more than a job to me. It is a privilege.
If You’ve Ever Wondered What Selling Might Look Like, I’m Here to Talk
You don’t have to be ready to sell. You don’t even have to be close. Many of the best conversations I have start with “I’m just curious.”
If you’ve ever wondered what your business might be worth, what buyers look for, or what the process actually feels like, I’m always happy to sit down and talk through it confidentially, casually, and without any pressure.
I love what I do, and I would be glad to be a resource for you whenever the time is right.
